Calculators in the Classroom

Based upon the given resources, many professionals have determined that calculator use in the classroom is beneficial when regulated.

What are the benefits of calculator use?​
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics claim that studies based on calculator use provides evidence that calculators enhance:

orientation towards mathematics

learning behaviors in mathematics 
What are the pros and cons of using calculators for math instruction?
Pros:
- 
Technology Knowledge -- because our society is based around technology, knowing how to use another piece of this environment is important 
- 
Enjoyment -- calculators can make math more enjoyable 
- 
Accuracy -- calculators are fast and accurate and give quick answers that can be double-checked easily 
Cons:
- 
Complacency -- students often rely on calculators to compute all of their math problems 
- 
Cheating -- graphing calculators allow students to store notes or formulas that could allow them to cheat during testing 
- 
Cost -- a simple calculator is relatively inexpensive, while a graphing calculator can be around $100 -- also, calculators need batteries to work which is an added reoccurring cost
